Contract Manufacturing

Pierrel's manufacturing site is located in Capua, 20km north of Naples. Pierrel owns 40.000 sqm of land of which 11.000 sqm is covered area; 5500 sqm are dedicated to production depts, the remaining areas are due to warehouse (with the possibility of different storage rooms (controlled temperature 2-8°C, 15°C and 25°C), chemical and microbiological laboratories, offices and utilities buildings.

The Plant began to operate more than 30 years ago and several refurbishements and revampings happened during this long period. In the last 3 years the company invested more than 15 Mlllions euro to upgrade the facility and today the site has the most advantage technology for the production of cartridges. The ampoules and vials lines also meet the highest european requirements in term of quality and technology.

Capua Site has around 80 employees, of which 50% are in production, 22% in Quality Unit, 10% in Engeneering, Maintenance & Utilities, 18% staff functions. The average age is relatevely low (60% of the population is less than 40 years old), with a high percentage of female and university degree people. The Plant is approved by AIFA-EMEA (last audit July 2008) and It is authorized for the production of small volumes parentherals products in different pharmaceutical forms (cartridges, ampoules and vials), for oral liquid (drops & sprays) and secondary packaging of tablets and capsules.

The dental anesthetics cartridges manufacturing can be considered the strategic business of the Plant, as Pierrel is one of the leading player at european level in this niche sector.

The Plant has two lines for this production, of which one is equipped with the most advantage technology filling line (time-pressure filling machine, RABS system,...), while the other is a traditional filling area.

The capacity, based upon 3 shifts, is around 150.000.000 cartridges per year. In 2008 the Plant produced 50.000.000 of cartridges, maily for european and MEA countries.

On top of the mentioned lines, the facility owns also the following production capabilities :

• Ampoules - Two filling lines (from 1 to 10ml) located in class a/c, for terminal sterilized products, starting from closed ampoules. These line are aligned with european GMP standards and requirements. The capacity, based of two shifts, is 42.000.000 ampoules per year.
• Vials - One traditional line : Vials washing/depirogenation tunnel/filling/capping which mets the european GMP standards and requirements. Total capacity per year = 4 million vials
• Glass vials line for liquid, drops & spray - The line has a capacity of 5 millions vials per year.
